Matt Mignanelli

Matt Mignanelli was born in 1983 and grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. Ever since childhood, he loved to draw and had a natural talent for it. While in Providence, went to the RISD museum for Saturday morning classes. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design.   Mignanelli always painted with a very hard edge and with very even colors, created "cartoonish but flat" pictures. After graduation, he moved to New York. Participated in a group show at The Hole in New York. His works began to appear at two more group exhibitions: "Sequenced Perceptions" in Zurich, and a presentation of paintings at Hollis Taggart in Chelsea. Already at the beginning of his work, he reached the level of perfection and brevity.  Mignanelli's paintings were almost always in dark colors, black and white, but with the appearance of his daughter, he began to return to lighter shades. By changing the orientation of the work, he created a completely new experience using the same tools. Matt Mignanelli chooses the best materials for his works, because they play a big role in the work. From the beginning, he used a mixture of many industrial paints and brushes for home painting. The artist's works also include acrylic and enamel paints. His works are free, even if the lines are measured with a pencil. The artist always works within a certain standard of dimensions. Because geometric shapes correspond to the proportions and dimensions of the canvas. Matt Mignanelli freely creates graphic abstract paintings that transform from every point of view and are always grounded in reality. Physically moving the cubic grid black on black will reveal layers of optical illusions, while simply blinking in front of a canvas covered in an intricate black and white pattern invites the eye to see an oscillating work of art. Each piece of Mignanelli's work depicts polygons of various shapes and sizes (with the tiniest of random curves), but they also always find their roots in reality — most often in architecture and light.
