Muntean/Rosenblum is an Austrian-Israelian artist duo based in Vienna. Working together since more than 25 years they stage the sets for their works whilst referring to compositions of Old Masters – whether it is in their paintings, performances or video pieces the artist couple is consciously working with traditional forms of pathos that we know from art history. Pathos as a catalyst and magnifying glass on a stage that shows the viewer an essence of human interaction. With the combination of text and image in their works and the use of sampling and resampling of subjects from art history and present-day popular culture, they established a new form of pathos in contemporary painting.
