Raphael “Afutumix” Adjetey Adjei Mayne (born 1983, Accra-Ghana) uses unique fabrics collected from localities on the coast of Ghana that contain intricately woven patterns . Mayne then paints added details on top of the sewn fabrics with acrylic paint to create the portraits. The images are often juxtaposed with bright monochrome backgrounds. Mayne's works are a mixture of childhood memories and current social commentaries. Raphael Adjetey Adjei Mayne currently lives and works in Cologne, Germany. Mayne studied at Ghanatta College of Art and Design from where he graduated in 2004. He has shown in both solo and group exhibitions in North America and Europe. A solo exhibition by Mayne will be held at the gallery in Spring 2023.
